Working with Fireworks HTML files

Dreamweaver makes it easy to paste or import HTML source code created in Fireworks 3 into Dreamweaver documents. If you own and use Fireworks, you can copy HTML directly to the clipboard in Fireworks and paste it into a Dreamweaver document. If you have received Fireworks HTML files from another designer, you can use the Insert Fireworks HTML object to import the HTML.

Note: You can also import HTML source code created in Fireworks 2 into a Dreamweaver document. However, if such a document contains Simple Rollover or Toggle Group behaviors, Dreamweaver does not recognize them and reports an error.

Pasting Fireworks HTML

If you use both Fireworks and Dreamweaver concurrently when creating documents, the easiest way to insert Fireworks HTML into a Dreamweaver document is to copy it to the clipboard.

To paste Fireworks HTML into a Dreamweaver document:

1 Save your Dreamweaver document in a defined site.
2 In Fireworks, choose File > Export.
3 At the bottom of the Export dialog box, select Dreamweaver 3 from the Style pop-up menu and Copy to Clipboard from the Location pop-up menu.
4 At the top of the Export dialog box, navigate to a location within the local root folder of the Dreamweaver site and click Save to save the image file.
5 In Dreamweaver, place the insertion point in the Document window and choose Edit > Paste.
The image and its associated HTML (and JavaScript, if any) are added to the Dreamweaver document in the appropriate places. The image appears in the Document window; to see the source code that was added, choose Window > HTML Source.

Inserting Fireworks HTML

If you have image and HTML files created in Fireworks 2 or 3, you can import the image and its associated HTML source code with the Insert Fireworks HTML object.

To insert Fireworks HTML into a Dreamweaver document:

1 Save your Dreamweaver document in a defined site.
2 Place the insertion point in the Document window and do one of the following:
Click the Insert Fireworks HTML button in the Object palette.
Choose Insert > Media > Fireworks HTML.
3 In the dialog box that appears, click Browse to browse to and select the Fireworks HTML file.
Select the Delete File After Insertion option to move the HTML file to the Recycle Bin (Windows) or Trash (Macintosh) when the operation is complete.
Note: If the HTML file is on a network drive, it is permanently deleted, not moved to the Recycle Bin or Trash.
4 Click OK.
The image and its associated HTML (and JavaScript, if any) are added to the Dreamweaver document in the appropriate places. The image appears in the Document window; to see the source code that was added, choose Window > HTML Source.
